New England Regional

Teacher Leadership Initiative

The New England Teacher Leadership Initiative is a dynamic and innovative forum for teachers to learn more about the education policy landscape and to identify opportunities for sustained involvement. This effort is being initiated by four current Teaching Ambassador Fellows for the U.S. Department of Education to encourage teacher leaders across New England to collaborate to share their classroom knowledge and experience, and then participate in shaping the education policies that affect our work. The goal is to shape a more powerful collective voice in education policy that builds upon our expertise in our classrooms to effect positive change at the local, district, state, and federal levels. The initiative will continue after the current fellows’ terms end at the Department of Education.

The New England Regional Teacher Leader Initiative’s mission is to empower teachers to make positive change in education policy.

The Initiative aims to...

* Convene teacher leaders from New England to be active voices in their school districts, towns, cities, and states

* Create positive and generative relationships among teachers across the region to empower them to make positive changes in education beyond the walls of their classroom

* Establish teacher leaders as credible resources for media and policy makers in order to make the teacher's voice better heard and understood
